Random Ramblings #1

October 18, 2013

Based on yesterday’s post it turns out that for some crazy reason you seem to enjoy my ramblings. Despite the many breakthroughs I have had, I still struggle with the idea that this is my blog, therefore I can talk about whatever I want, even if it has nothing to do with food or fitness. So no recipes or workout ideas for today, instead I’m letting you in on my deepest, darkest thoughts. Well more like my surface level thoughts because I don’t need you going all Freudian on my id.

1. Lately I’ve been seriously missing being a student. I wandered through The University of Toronto campus a few days ago on one of my daily walks, which likely prompted my nostalgia. For the record I did not go to U of T but it’s far superior rival, McGill. Mostly I miss my roomie (hi Sab!), my 10:30 AM workouts with the mommies at The MAA and it being perfectly acceptable to eat a giant bowl of fruit loops for dinner à la Jason Segal in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The view from U of T campus

2. I have not food prepped in 2 weeks. Most of my meals I’ve eaten out, but I have come up with some pretty creative lunches to make up for the lack of food in my house. Exhibit a) a defrosted carrot cake waffle banana and peanut butter sandwich. This is actually amazing and I’m finally starting to make a dent in my frozen waffle collection.

3. I LOVE halloween. Generally I have my costume picked out by August. This year is no exception minus the fact that I have yet to be invited to a Halloween party. Anyone want to invite me? I can’t give away my costume just yet, but let’s just say I’ve officially retired slutty Elmo…

Halloween 2011
4. Speaking of inappropriate clothing, I finally got around to cleaning out my closet. Several revelations occurred. First, I am no longer a tween and wearing crop tops in public is not acceptable. Gone are the days of Avicii concerts and short shorts. It was a cordial parting of ways. Second, I really need to learn to fold my clothing. For one, it’s probably a good habit to keep up and two I don’t know how to iron.
5. My play count on this song is over 100, and that is just on my computer…If you actually listened to my walking playlist you will have heard this song already. If you didn’t then at least click play on this video. You can thank me later.

That’s all for today folks. TGIF!

Graduates, do you miss being a student? Anyone as excited for halloween as I am/want to invite me to their party? Feel free to share any great posts you’ve read this week.

YES to missing being a student. Every September, I always get hit by a wave of nostalgia when I see all the kids going back to school… As much as I hated the studying and essay-writing, it was still good times. Thankfully, I kind of feel like I’m in school again since I’ve been taking an online course 😉

There are times that I really do miss college – I would love to just walk through campus now NOT being a student….When I was in school I was always rushing somewhere, to study, or do a project, or to class (actually now that I’m talking about it I think I had a dream about college last night! lol)
I LOVE Halloween – I’ve discussed it in detail! – and I’m super excited…we do the whole trick-or-treating with friends and all of our kids on Halloween….and then that weekend our friends host an adults-only Halloween party where everyone dresses up, and drinks, and lets loose #parentsgonewild 😉 – it’s something we all look forward to all year!!! 🙂

I definitely miss being a student at times as well. No real responsibility aside from doing well in school, waking up late, going to bed late, partying, eating, being with friends…yeah it was pretty sweet haha! I’m not sure I’d really want to go back. Lately I’ve been wanting to go back to school just to further my education (in a new field) though. I’m excited for Halloween too just so I can dress up my dogs and hand out candy! 🙂

Ohh I totally know how it goes missing being a student! Hence the post-bacc for me! All of last year I just hated not being in school, and then I realized I really did want to go back and pursue a PhD. It feels good but there are times when I miss not being student! Like when I’m so busy I have to schedule who I’m going to talk to on my commute home. Can I just say I LOVE that you mentioned Jason Segel in FSM! I love that movie and Jason and the fruit loops scene is hilarious. I too haven’t made as many homemade meals. I’ve been eating out a lot, which I’m trying not to do, but maybe next week will be better! Have a great weekend, beautiful!

Most definitely in response to the first question. Nobody prepared me for this by saying I’d miss going there. Then again, I also missed going to school after finishing it and nobody told me I would before. Not like I’d have believed them while I was still attending it, though.
I’m not excited for Halloween at all – only because it’s not actually celebrated all that much over here. Sad but true. Now if you decided to throw a party and invite me I’d be right over there – after taking waaaay too long to pick a costume, that is.

I don’t have a Halloween party on the agenda yet either, should we have our own little party? Slutty elmo costumes not invited ;-).

My costume this year is a major step-up. Where shall we host this party??

Such a pretty view from U of T campus! Me too, food prepping is hard here in BsAs especially if you’re just a couple or on your own. We like to make simple meals whilst traveling without having to buy all the ingredients. I can’t believe you have already picked out your costume that summer – what?! I don’t even know what to dress for Halloween!

I do miss being a student – I studied biochem which was’t useful to me anymore. I think I want to study again and learn about nutrition and animal welfare. I’m curious if the Argentinians celebrate Halloween, I saw some costume shops nearby, but most of them are just scary masks!

I wish I’d known that what I studied in school wouldn’t matter at all for what I want to do with my life. I probably wouldn’t have studied so hard! I think you should definitely go back to school for nutrition and animal welfare!

AHH I am both ashamed and appalled at some of the clothes I wore when I was younger..HAHA! YIKES! Your Elmo costume is cute!! I, too, love Halloween…however I’ve never really gotten into the dressing up part? I don’t know why! Also yes…embrace the random posts..those are my FAVORITE!

YES I definitely miss college sometimes! My college roomie/best friend and I reminisce a lot, especially since I live 2,500 miles away and we don’t get to see each other often. More than just missing the time in your life when you’re an adult but not an adult and when it’s perfectly acceptable to go out drinking all the time, I’m a dork and actually miss the school part of being in college. So who knows, maybe one day I’ll go back for another degree! 😉

I seriously miss the library! I’m really not kidding. I was way better at being a student than an employee!

Wait where’s the beautiful IG dessert?! You of course are free to ramble about whatever you choose, but it would be awesome if you chose to ramble about that 🙂 Just saying

I’m heading back to my Alma Mater next weekend for the first time that doesn’t involve visiting the BF (boy finally graduated! haha) and I’m sure it’s going to make me horribly nostalgic all weekend.

Ah I’m getting so many requests for the IG pic! I’ll post the recipe now that I know people like it 🙂

My bf just graduated too but he’s still living in montreal so the nostalgia returns everytime I visit!

It’s funny, when I was in college…going to school full time AND working full time, I couldn’t WAIT to be done with school so all I would have to worry about was ONE job and now? Now, I wish I could go back to those days where I miraculously made everything fit in one day and still had time to hang out and get drunk with my friends…um, not that there was any underage drinking involved…no, I would never do such things!

I’m really hoping tomorrow is the start of a nice and productive week. Today has been really good (I went to the gym for the first time in over a month! Yay me!) and I just want the good juju to continue on into the week…hopefully erasing my memories of last week! I’m definitely starting with some food prep (hmm, maybe I’ll make some freezer waffles!) and house cleaning (I’ll fold my clothes if you will!) first thing in the morning…having those things done always helps me stress a little less!

I don’t think I’d miss being a student, specially the homework part haha. I haven’t had a proper meal for ages, because of the grape harvest and stuff. Like, I’ve been living on homemade make-ahead freezer meals for a month now. But that sandwich looks super yummy!

I cannot wait for the day when I miss being a student– I know the day will come where I’ll wish I was back in school, but right now I just want out! Also, that picture of the U of T campus is gorgeous!

Although I don’t miss the studying bit at all, there are definitely bits about school that I would love to turn back time for- life just seemed so much easier and more structured back then! Plus you can’t beat those long-ass vacations! Random lunches like those are the best. Like you, many of my meals lately have been eaten out so the few which are at home are either random or far from exciting. For ske of convenience, I usually go down the egg, roasted squash & veggie route!

I really missed studying too, and now that I’m doing a yoga teaching course I’m finding it quite nice to be back to having reading, learning, and yes even the homework! I can fold clothes just fine. But I’m terrible with the Iron. Truly terrible.

I try to avoid ironing. Or, quite frankly, anything to do with laundry. When my husband is up to it he does it but sometimes he’s too sick to get out of bed and I have to do it. That really sucks! Both parts.

Slutty Elmo, glad that’s retired. Just seems wrong. LOL!

I actually don’t really miss being a student, except when I have call times like 5:30 tomorrow!

I still don’t know what to be for Halloween… maybe Prancersize?
