Vanilla Mango Smoothie

September 5, 2014

If you haven’t noticed it by now, I have major issues staying in one place. Over the past few months I have covered 2 countries, 5 states, 8 cities/towns and taken countless trains, planes, boats and cars. And with trips booked for a year from now I’m not so sure I’ll be slowing down anytime soon.

I love to travel and explore and get serious cabin fever when stuck inside but I also think that travelling makes you really appreciate the comforts of home. This was the case when I found myself with a rare Saturday night at home last weekend. How did I choose to spend my time? By entering my favourite black hole aka Pinterest.

Vanilla Mango Smoothie // thehealthymaven.comI LOVE Pinterest but it is also a major time suck. I use it enough for business purposes that I rarely have the time to just spend hours browsing at things that have nothing to do with THM. So a night full of Pinterest adventures just for pleasure is a real treat for me (wow that made my life sound so sad…).

Besides pinning a million and one recipes I will probably never make and hairstyles that will never cooperate with my afro, I also came to the conclusion that Pinterest is undergoing a very serious existential crisis. I can’t blame it, September can be a very confusing time of the year. Everyone is prepping for their cute cardigans and scarves while whipping up all things pumpkin when outside it is blazing hot.

Vanilla Mango Smoothie // thehealthymaven.com
I too seem to be undergoing a quarter life crisis. Should I be buying berries or squash at the farmer’s market? Let’s get real, I bought both. Although it will likely be winter here by next week so I think all of my seasonal questions will be cleared up quite quickly.

Nevertheless, Pinterest got me all worked up over whether it was still appropriate to post a smoothie. The thermometer told me yes, but Starbucks told me no (seriously an AUGUST release of the PSLs?!?!) and Pinterest just made me even more confused.

Well, I’m gonna take a chance on this one and hope that you guys love this Vanilla Mango Smoothie despite what all the pumpkin sweater-wearing naysayers might tell you. Alternatively, I could just start exclusively posting pumpkin smoothies? Now there’s an idea…

I am in denial about summer but will never deny fall foods lol. I do like pinterest but only really use it for searching recipes. Sometimes I like the quotes and pretty soon I think I will focusing on the Bar Mitzvah ideas. I am pretty sure that the Bar Mitzvah date which is two years from now is going to be here before I know it!

Staying in on a Saturday and pinning away IS a treat. A little embarrassing, yes, but I get it. Also, I’m SO CONFUSED on what I’m supposed to be pinning/posting/eating. I want pumpkin but, like you said, the weather is telling me otherwise.

Pinterest is confusing the heck out of me also!! There are heirloom tomato tarts next to copycat PSL recipes. What is a girl to do?!

I’m staying the neutral ground right now. With chocolate. But I approve of smoothie consumption also!

I love your chart of all the ingredients! All it takes is a quick look and I’ll be able to remember the gist of what’s in it to make it.

Haha I wrote a little bit about my bad relationship w Pinterest today….I’m just getting into it for business purposes as well, otherwise I’d rather not dabble with, unless i need Halloween decoration and food ideas! That’s my favooooorite time of year!!!

    Take care!

Definitely ready for fall! The leaves are already starting to change around here, so I’m trying to appreciate it before they all fall off in like… 3 weeks. That being said, I have no problem wit drinking smoothies even in the dead of winter. As long as it’s by the fireplace 😉

You’re fine on posting a smoothie! In fact, I posted a smoothie recipe today.
I drink smoothie year round. Living in Arizona, it’s never cold like the kind of cold you get. You want to talk confusing. It’s STILL 110 degrees here and we’re all dying for cooler weather so we can wear a sleeveless sweater dress with flip flops.

SO true that September is such a funny time of year– should I be buying sweaters or sundresses?! Pumpkin or strawberries?! Naturally I stocked up on berries at the farmer’s market last weekend like they were going out of style (because they pretty much are…) and have been eating them this week like there’s no tomorrow. But I have actually been dreaming about pumpkin, so I think it’s about time to begin stocking up on that as well. No matter what I am always a fan of vanilla + mango! So tropical! And teach me your food photog ways… SF studio style, please!

I’ve totally become a Pinterest addict, especially since J proposed and we started planning the wedding. I’ve pinned ALL the wedding dresses.
I felt the same about posting a smoothie recipe the other day. Techincally the end of summer isn’t until September 21, so I think that gives free reign for something a bit longer. Tbh I eat smoothies all year round.

Girl I’m with you – I’m still holding onto summer! I know we are going to have an excessively long cold season to enjoy foods like pumpkin and squash so I’m holding off on buying them. I’d rather get the most out of tomatoes and peaches before I have to resort to buying the flavourless imported ones!

PS. Wish I’d read this post earlier in the day. I could have used this refreshing smoothie after I lost a bucket’s worth of sweat biking 15 minutes to/from the market!

Not only is pumpkin everywhere already, I saw CHRISTMAS flavors in the grocery store in mid-August!! I legit threw a fit in the middle of the store about how commercialization ruins everything because we don’t appreciate special seasonal things when they don’t stay in their season. John agrees, so we have a “no pumpkin until October” ban going in our house. Did I tell you this already? If so I’m sorry, but really, I feel like everyone should get on board.

It was eighty three degrees here yesterday, so I am not grabbing a sweater or a pumpkin anything, anytime soon. In fact, I think all these fall maniacs and Pinteresters need to be corralled together and force fed all the pumpkin things with a steaming mug of Pumpkin Spiced Latter while wearing chunky sweaters and knee high boots, outside in the eighty three degree weather. Ha, take that fall lovers! Viva la revolution.

Alright now where was I? Ah yes, your smoothie. You go ahead and post as many summertime smoothie recipes as your little heart desires. I will happily lap this up, while wearing my cute and colorful shorts and basking in the last rays of summer. “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” There I go quoting Dylan Thomas again. Clearly I’ve got issues.
