3 powerful and effective recipes for DIY Face Masks made entirely from kitchen ingredients! Whether your skin is dry, damaged or just in need of some life, these face masks will help nourish your skin using plants from the earth.I’ve been asked what kind of blog I would start if I didn’t have The Healthy Maven. Faster than I think anyone expects I promptly blurt out “FACE MASKS! I would blog entirely about face masks” .

I can’t entirely explain my obsession other than the fact that I am fascinated by the possibility of creating something nourishing for your skin by mixing together a bunch of random ingredients. Maybe in another life I’ll be a chemist…or maybe more accurately I will pass high school chemistry.

Needless to say, if I’m not blogging over here, I am probably researching, creating or sitting in a corner wearing a face mask. The struggle is real people!

Anything I say from here on out will be redundant so I suggest you watch the video to learn more about 3 of my all-time favorite face mask recipes and why I love them so much. Plus you get to watch me rub food all over my face. How’s that for attractive?

Let’s break down each DIY face mask…

The brightener is a mask for those of you who feel like your skin has been looking a little dull. After our summer tans have said their goodbyes, this mask is so key. Here’s what makes it so awesome:

Pumpkin – the AHA in pumpkin makes it great for skin-regeneration so your skin is always looking its freshest.

Turmeric – turmeric is actually one of the best ingredients you can use on your face. It helps with inflammation but also with scar reduction and skin discoloration.

Lemon – just like turmeric, lemon helps treat skin discoloration and exfoliates by “peeling” off old, dead skin.

THE RECIPE

2 tablespoons of pureed pumpkin
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
juice, 1/2 lemon

Mix all-ingredients well. Wash face and then apply to skin for 15-20 minutes. Wash off face very well.

The Soother is for those of you with blotchy, irritated skin. We all have those breakouts that require a little bit of extra love! Here’s what goes into The Soother:

Oat Flour – remember taking oatmeal baths when you had the chicken pox? That’s because oatmeal is incredibly calming for irritated skin. This will help reduce redness and is also a great exfoliant.

Matcha Green Tea Powder – green tea is packed-full of antioxidants that help with its anti-inflammatory super-powers.

Manuka Honey – like green tea, manuka honey is extremely high in antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and is also anti-bacterial, which really helps with acne.

THE RECIPE

1 1/2 tablespoons of ground out flour (ground rolled-oats)
1/2 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
1 teaspoon manuka honey
water, to thin out mixture slightly

Mix all-ingredients well. Wash face and then apply to skin for 15-20 minutes. Wash off face very well.

Whether your skin is dry, damaged or just in need of some life, these face masks will help nourish your skin using plants from the earth. With the winter months creeping up on us, The Nourisher will become a godsend! Seriously, your face feels like a baby’s bum after this mask. It deeply moisturizes to help those with dry skin look dewy and nourished!

1/4 of an avocado – avocado is equally as amazing for you skin when you use it on your skin as when you eat it. All those healthy fats provide serious nourishment and also help with wrinkle reduction.

1/3 of a banana – helps to remove dead skin cells and provide moisture to new skin cells. The ultimate hydrator!

Manuka Honey – as mentioned above, manuka honey is extremely high in antioxidants that help reduce inflammation but those antioxidants also nourish the skin with key vitamins and minerals.

THE RECIPE

1/4 an avocado
1/3 banana
1 teaspoon manuka honey
water, to thin out mixture slightly

Add to blender (or mash with a fork or potato masher) and blend until smooth. Wash face and then apply to skin for 15-20 minutes. Wash off face very well.
