Extreme Makeover: The Healthy Maven Edition + Win a $50 Amazon Gift Card!

So let’s address the elephant in the room.

It looks a little different around here, eh? THM got a facelift over the past few days, which some of you have already taken note of. This little blog underwent a makeover 2 years ago when she was just a baby, but now that she’s almost a toddler, I thought a fresh look might be nice. Surprise!

In my opinion, it isn’t drastically different from the old design but it’s certainly a lot cleaner and brighter. I didn’t want anything totally new but along with J. Louis Technology, we designed something that pulled elements of the old (i.e. same logo minus the plate) and a more up-to-date color scheme and font palate.

It took me about 6 months of researching and pinning to really get an idea of what I was looking for and I’m thrilled with the final result! I can’t thank J. Louis Technology enough and Lexi for the recommendation. Such a positive, awesome experience.

So why the change?

Well first, THM was looking a bit outdated. Physically I needed this blog to match more of my life and personality now. I’m older, a bit more polished and refined and a lot more vibrant. I think the new design matches this perfectly.

Secondly, I want to make some changes around here and sometimes you need to uproot the outside to stimulate growth on the inside.

As I’m sure you noticed I’ve been experimenting with some new mediums and content here on THM. YouTube has obviously been a big focus these last few months and I’m also delving into content beyond food.

THM-on-YoutubeThese changes have been prompted by my own explorations through health and what it means to be healthy beyond what you put in your mouth. What you put on your body, how you spend your time, balancing your mental health and relationships are all topics that I think are important to a holistic view of wellness. No matter how much kale you eat, if you ignore everything else you won’t glow from the inside out.

Alls to say, expect a wider spectrum of topics on THM in addition to video. The food won’t be going anywhere but I certainly hope you can pull some value from some of these other perspectives.

Throughout the redesign process I kept coming back to the reason why I blog in the first place. It came down to two reasons:

  1. I absolutely love it. I selfishly get to fulfill my creative juices and desire for flexibility and productivity every.single.day
  2. I want to contribute and bring value to this world. In this case, leading by example and providing helpful and valuable resources to my readers to live a healthy and happy life.

The redesign and my exploration of other mediums has totally fulfilled point #1, but point #2 is equally as important. I wouldn’t be here without YOU. I read every comment, email and message from all of you, even if I may not be able to respond to them all. What I’m getting at here is that I want this place to be helpful to you. I want you to get excited when there’s a new THM email in your inbox, make that recipe you see on Instagram or win that sweet giveaway from a brand you’ve been dying to try.

So I’m putting it out to you! I’m asking you to comment below with what you’d like to see on THM. Yes, even if you’re too afraid to comment. Your responses matter. It can be anything from vegetarian meals, to DIY beauty recipes to video requests. I’m all ears!

Plus I’m offering a $50 gift card that will be randomly picked from the responses. If that isn’t incentive, I don’t know what is.

Mom: “Daddy does too. Much more flattering picture of you too. Are you changing your pic on instagram as well?”

Me: …okay thanks mom.

    I think everything looks so cute, and I love the new color palette. The combination of bright orange and pinks is adorable and so fun. The only thing I’d say is that the font is REALLY difficult to read! I’d like to be able to read everything without having to zoom in on the browser…

    Your parents response is so funny. At least they are honest! I liked your old design too, but this one is totally new and fresh!! Any recipes you have that are vegan always draw me in. That being said, I tend to gravitate towards your dessert recipes because they often have a healthy component! 🙂

    I personally would love to see more youtube vidoes! But not just recipe videos, more like food/lifestyle in general. For example, have you seen Dinner, Drive-ins & Dives, Rachel Ray’s $40 a day or Giada’s Gateway? Basically the shows feature restaurants, bakeries, or coffee shops around a certain area. You live in Canada, so I’m sure there are amazing places to feature.
    Also, have you seen Chuck’s Day off? I ♡ that show! And he’s Canadian too, right?

    LOL @ your convo with your mom. Strange that I had almost the exact same convo with mine when I changed my pic after my redesign. Except she had something to say about my eyebrows in this one too -_- #parents.
    Also, I’d love to see more healthy lifestyle type posts like the ones you do about skin care etc. Obsessed with that sort of thing.

    Ha! I love you parents response. The redesign looks great! I always bring my lunch to work, so I would love to see tips on packable lunches and snacks. I am a snacker and have a hard time branching out. I love veggies and hummus, but would love to see some of your suggestions.

    I LOVE the new look – looks so fresh, bright and vibrant…which is what I kind of think of when I think of you and your blog/personality. And I’d LOVE to see more of everything. The recipes/food is amazing, but delving into other aspects (like you mentioned above) would help me feel more connected to your blog!

    I like the new colors a lot! THM is definitely has a cleaner now. It would be great if it would be possible to decrease the number of ads.. especially for the mobile version. In terms of practicality, though, I don’t know if that’s possible.

    First of all, I’d like to say I love your pumpkin spice recipes especially your choco chip cookie and blondies! they’re delicious!!!! Secondly, I know this sounds funny, but a lot of people think that if its organic and non gmo the sugar content doesn’t matter! But it does! (especially to a diabetic) So I’m advocating for recipes with lower sugar content without the artificial sweeteners. Also another thing, I feel like the website has some chinks to work out. It took me quite a while to type this up, half my words were not being displayed. Other than that this site is AMAZING!!!!!!

    Your life posts are spot on. I love them.

    The only other thing I’d like to see more of are simpler recipes…you make beautiful things, but I often look at the ingredient list, or the appliances I need and wistfully move on.

    Love the new look Davida, this bright pink is one of my favourite colours 🙂 For the past weeks I’ve been trying to convince my web designer that it looks great, because she thought it was too bright lol 😉

    So happy to read about your plans! I also wanted to create a blog featuring healthy recipes, and tips and suggestions to achieve a healthy and balanced life, but experienced bloggers keep saying that to really grow your blog you have to establish a niche first, so I’m starting with recipes and will expand my horizon later 🙂

    I’d love to see more healthy desserts, snacks and vegetarian lunch and dinner ideas. I also love the DIY natural recipes 🙂

    I would love to see more slow cooker savoury recipes. I would say more grill recipes (Seen as we are away to go into summer here in Australia) but I really don’t think that would hit your target market! Haha!
