Ditch the reese’s peanut butter cups in favor of these healthy Maple Pecan Butter Cups! The perfect seasonal dessert recipe for all of your holiday snacking. Plus they’re made from just 4 ingredients!

If you have never made your own peanut butter cups you are in for a treat! I put my own twist on these and used maple pecan butter as the filling and the end result is insanely delicious!

These are perfect for your holiday dessert spread or to just have on hand for a sweet treat.

Here’s What You Need

  • coconut oil – the base of the chocolate layer. You’ll melt the coconut oil and mix in the cocoa powder and maple syrup to create the chocolate shell.
  • unsweetened cocoa powder – raw cacao powder also works!
  • maple syrup – a natural sweetener for the chocolate shell.
  • maple pecan butter – I love having a batch of my maple pecan butter on hand at all times through the fall and winter months. The perfect seasonal twist on nut butter!
  • sea salt – optional, but I highly recommend sprinkling a little sea salt on top for the perfect salty-sweet bite!

Variations & Notes

While I love this recipe as is, you can absolutely switch things up to make it work for you!

  • different sweetener – feel free to use a different liquid sweetener in the chocolate layer
  • different nut butter – you can use any type of nut or seed butter for the filling! Want a classic version? Stick with peanut butter. Or take it to the next level with a flavor-infused nut or seed butter.

How to Make Maple Pecan Butter Cups

STEP 1: Melt the coconut oil in the microwave on on the stovetop. Stir in the cocoa powder and maple syrup until smooth.

STEP 2: Line a muffin tin with liners and scoop 2 teaspoons of the chocolate mixture into each cup. Place in the freezer to set for 5-10 minutes.

STEP 3: Scoop 1 teaspoon of maple pecan butter into each cup and then coat with additional chocolate until covered. Sprinkle with sea salt and place in the freezer for an additional 30 minutes.

How to Store Leftovers

I recommend storing these in the freezer because the chocolate layer will melt at room temperature. They will last up to three months in the freezer.

  6. Sprinkle with sea salt if using.
