Did the title give it away??? Or maybe it was the last 12 posts mentioning my birthday…sorry about that. Anyway, today I turn 24. Believe it or not I am not the type of person who gets excited about their birthday. Sure I don’t mind the presents and the love but more than anything it’s an excuse to eat good food and you can be sure I am going to take full advantage of that! Refer to yesterday’s post for proof of my epic birthday eats. Tonight I will be celebrating with some friends at The Libertine, a new restaurant in Toronto which serves some of the most indulgent food I have ever seen. I will be loving and savouring every bite.
But my day started like any other, with a bowl of oatmeal. Not just any oatmeal though…Birthday Cake Oatmeal! I treated myself to a little early birthday love at David’s Tea and was inspired by their Birthday Cake Tea. By the way, if you haven’t tried using tea in your oatmeal you are seriously missing out. Stop wrapping the present you are giving me for my birthday and go make some tea oatmeal right now;)
On an entirely different note I decided to set some goals for myself for the coming year. I am all about goal-setting and for the most part I follow through…minus the whole not bitting my nails thing. Some of them are big, others are small, some are silly and others are important. Regardless of their size or level of importance they are all things I would like to achieve by 25. By no means am I putting pressure on myself to achieve them all, but it gives me something to strive for to ensure I use this coming year to the fullest! Life is a gift and not something to take for granted. Events in recent years have put this into perspective for me. I plan to take the lessons I have been taught and make the most of this precious life I have.

Birthday Cake Oatmeal
Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 5-6 mins

Ingredients (Yields: 1 serving)
- 1/2 cup GF certified oats
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup David’s Tea Birthday Cake Tea (or more coconut milk)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder (or half a ripe banana)
- 4-6 drops of liquid stevia
- 1 tsp sprinkles
1. Add oatmeal, tea and coconut milk to sauce pan and stir to combine.
2. Cook over medium heat for 3 mins, or until liquid starts to boil.
3. Stir for another 2-3 mins or until consistency is reached.
4. Turn off stove and stir in protein powder (or banana), vanilla extract and stevia.
5. Serve immediately.
