EPIC Workout Playlist

January 28, 2014

The only thing in life I love almost as much as food is music. As many of you know I am a total music elitist. I judge you when I catch you listening to Tao Cruz on the subway, but no judgement is to be passed when I’m caught singing Wrecking Ball in the shower…just sayin’.

A huge motivator for me when it comes to exercise is music. I don’t go anywhere without my headphones, whether it be walking to a friend’s house or lifting in the gym. I need a music buddy. In fact, sometimes I save listening to new playlists or albums for the gym or for a walk so I’m encouraged to go!

Since I failed at trying to convince Drake to sing me a private concert in the gym I came up with this epic workout playlist. For the record this music will be epic for approximately 3 months before I’ve listened to it so many times it makes my ears bleed. Epic Workout Playlist part #2 will follow.

epic workout playlistAnd for your listening pleasure or if you don’t trust my music taste I’ve uploaded all of the songs to an 8tracks playlist for you to preview. Happy sweating!

Looking for something a little slower but equally as epic? Check out my Walk the Walk playlist!

Do you listen to music when you exercise? What’s your taste in music?

Ahhhh thank you for this! Literally heading out the door to workout right now and dreading the awful gym tuneage that happens. If you say they are epic, I will have to give ‘er a try!

Ohhhh you’re fancy. Thanks for uploading the actual songs–sweet! YES I listen to music at the gym (though I forgot my music yesterday and survived) and I usually listen to rap. Like hardcore rap. I don’t know….I do not understand….but lately, it’s what I’ve been jamming to. That, or techno beats.

Ahhh I can feel your judgment over my teenie-bopper music! This is why I’m lucky I have cool friends like you 🙂 I hope it’s ok I’m listening while blog reading instead of working out, I promise I’ll use it during a sweat sesh later!

Why aren’t you just the sweetest thing to upload the playlist! Perhaps if Drake would’ve sang too you, he would’ve been included in such an epic playlist. Too bad for him! 🙂

i’m going to show how old i am here because the only person i know on that list is mary j but i only know her music from her first 2 albums (what’s the 411 is her BEST album by far) and then she got lame after she stopped being a crack head. i guess there are times when you shouldn’t say no to drugs.

my music is old school; i listen to a lot of old 80s/90s music that i grew up with so a lot of alternative (depeche mode, new order, the cure etc), old school RnB (eric b and rakim, blackstreet, the old Mary J, michael jackson etc ) and old school house. and my admission of all of this just makes me an old hag.

Music is definitely key when I’m working out! It’s such a big motivator for me. That’s part of the reason why I love going to Zumba – I love the music and I love dancing to it. It really helps me get into the workout!

Girl I’m all with you there about being a music elitist. The fact that I have been to dozens of concerts and actively search new music on a daily basis makes me feel as if I have a sense of what is good music.

I definitely like this playlist quite a lot!! Disclosure is amazing…I saw them not too long ago and it was a great show!

We should definitely exchange music because I love seeing other people’s music perspectives because everyone likes something different.

My range of taste goes from Frank Sinatra to Skrillex – I literally love every genre out there EXCEPT for ANY type of country (although I do like Bluegrass).

For working out, I definitely listen to extremely upbeat and heavy dubstep music, especially when I’m doing a fast run.

Lately, I’ve been LOVING the Dirtyphonics 2013 Shambhala Mix and the Excision 2013 Shambhala Mix – if you want heavy dubstep check these out!

For something more chill and smooth I would recommend Gramatik’s new album called The Age of Reason! It just dropped this past weekend (I’ve been waiting FOR months – he kept pushing back the release) and it has exceeded my expectations!!!

Love these posts!!! Music is my life <3! Definitely do these more often!

I might steal your idea and post some of these playlists on my blog! Way easier than using soundcloud links!

    Thanks 🙂

      Hey love!!!

I love chatting with fellow music lovers! Would love to do some tradesies. And feel free to use the idea or share playlists. Spread the (good) music love!!

My dub days are over unfortunately. We’re just not going to talk about the crazy/scarring night I had seeing Rusko haha. I still listen to electro every now and then and throwback to some of my old electro playlists and essential mixes from a few years ago but these days I’m more into Indie Dance/Electro-Funk < --does that even exist?!? haha Disclosure is amazing. I wanted to see them in Montreal but tickets sold out so quickly! One day. Here are three tracks I've been loving lately:

Feel free to share any goodies you have in return!

YESSSS I would highly recommend checking out Griz and Gramatik – funky electro/dance!! (also called electro-soul)
They are probably some of my favorites of all time!!

I’m sending you both their latest albums that they recently released, but I would check out all of their music b/c I love pretty much all of it!

hhahaah…I’m not surprised that you had a crazy night at Rusko 😉 and I’m gonna check out that music you sent me!!! thanks!

Awesome, there’s barely something as useful as a good workout playlist. I recently washed and dry-cleaned my mp3-player (don’t ask) and now I have to listen to the same old songs on my phone over and over again while running. I am getting really sick of them. Time to buy a cable to connect it to my laptop and get some new tunes on!

I’m with you on needing music! I once left the gym after approximately 12 minutes because my iPod died. Not kidding. I listen to what I call “bad ass” music at the gym, aka stuff that makes me feel like a beast. Depending on my mood this is usually rap, rock, or something truly angry like Rage Against the Machine. Listening to your playlist while I do the rest of my morning blog reading, can’t wait to hear some new-to-me songs!

I don’t necessarily care what music people listen to on the train, but seriously if I can hear it from 5 seats in front of you then I am judging your disregard for everyone else on the train that doesn’t want to listen to 10 year old Shakira tracks. It happens all too often. Also, when people sing out loud at the gym like no one else is there, just no.

Woahhh sweet graphic! Super super cool. I’ve heard of some of these bands/artists but never actually listened to them. I like to listen to certain things in certain situations (like when I run or drive I prefer more upbeat rock stuff, when I lift I like more rap or things with an obvious, heavier beat, and in my downtime I like indie stuff.). I’m one of those people who needs music to workout. I don’t push as hard w/o it.

I’m going to check out your playlist as soon as I can listen to music out loud (aka when I’m not at work/school :)). My taste in music is teasingly diverse. I love classic rock but I’m also a big fan of dance music (which I consider to consist of artists like Pitbull, Flo Rida, and songs like Warrant’s Cherry Pie, etc). Anything that you could dance to in a club (or in the privacy of your own bedroom if you know what I mean 😉 ) is something I’d probably like.

No judgement on Wrecking Ball. I resisted for so long, but I’m a sucker for power ballads. But really, no Tao Cruz but yes to Drake? I don’t think we can be friends anymore. Maybe we should just keep Miley on loop 24/7 to salvage what we’ve got here.

Hmm, I have a feeling this might just make you think I am even weirder…

BUT – I DO NOT and CANNOT listen to music when I do cardio. Nope! The reason? Well, a song is like 4-5 minutes long, right? When the song is over, I think “AW MAN! only 4-5 minutes went by, THIS SUCKS!!!”

I’m with you–music makes or breaks a workout for me. That’s why I love spinning class–when the routine is choreographed to the playlist, you can’t help but get SO into it (in my case, embarrassingly into it haha).

When it comes to a genre of choice, for working out it’s EDM all the way–love the high energy beats.

I need music with EVERYTHING I do. I even have a kitchen playlist. Cause cooking and baking with some good beats (and singing along with the pepeprmill or the spatula as a microphone) is BEST. Also at the gym, on the bike doing errands, at work (I have a cool boss and am allowed to listen to music with stylish wireless headphones). AND I also save my best tracks for my workouts so they kick my butt even more. Pinned this!! Thanks sista!

I have a Long Runs playlist I usually listen to on Spotify when I’m… get this… running. I’m a total music elitist, too. One of my friends recently caught me listening to Asher Roth “I Love College” on Spotify because it was on an old-school hip-hop playlist I was using for motivation one day. (Nothing gets me pumped like some old-school Jay). But other than that, I listen to a lot of indie and hip-hop!
