Some of you may remember Amy from her guest post on Stepping Out of your Fitness Comfort Zone. Well, I finally took Amy up on her challenge as well as her invite to try out a new activity, SkyRobics.
Sky Zone is an indoor trampoline park in Toronto that offers a range of activities from dodgeball to aerobics classes, all while jumping on trampolines! Amy and I had no idea what to expect when we showed up for a SkyRobics fitness class on Tuesday.
First they had us wear these ridiculous shoes. Turns out they were optional but I thought I looked pretty stylin’ and was slightly worried about my leg so I kept them on.
The class started with about 10 minutes of jumping from trampoline to trampoline in a large circle. Seems easy right? Think again. It’s actually quite challenging and seriously hard on your quads. After 10 minutes of this we were already working up a sweat.
We then moved onto some jumping exercises (knee-ups, butt-kicks, jumping-jacks) before going through a round of circuits which targeted our abs, glutes and arms. We both agreed that the workout was challenging but that the instructors were not the best at explaining everything. At some points I thought they may have been making up the circuits on the spot.
Nevertheless I still ended up as a sweaty mess after the hour was up. One crazy move which Amy and I found challenging (in a good way) was when they had us jumping over the divider from one trampoline to the next with our arms glued to the divider. We did three sets of 20 and boy were my arms and legs burning.
All-in-all it was a fantastic workout and a fun experience to try something new. It’s easy to get stuck in a fitness rut so it was great to be reminded that working out does not have to mean lifting weights or running. Plus we got to jump into a big pit of foam bricks! The most challenging part of the class was trying to get out of them…
