Random Ramblings #3

November 22, 2013

I’m baaaaack. Welcome to Random Ramblings, a place where I discuss my latest food addictions, force my epic music selections on you and showcase my terrible selfies. Pleased to have you join me.

1. Last weekend we discussed my infamous mayor’s crack problem. This weekend we’ll discuss mine. In the form of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Almonds. I cannot stop. They are incredible and only confirm my suspicions that Trader Joe’s is the foodie version of a drug cartel. How I am going to make the two boxes my parents brought back for me from Cleveland last until my next visit to the US is beyond me.

2. I’ve developed a new habit and I think I’m starting to annoy people. Clearly I love blogging but apparently I’ve decided that anyone who has something even remotely close to a talent should love it too. Oh you make artisan dog shoes? You should start a blog! You have an unhealthy obsession with rubber bands? Blog about it! I caught myself doing this the other day with one of my oldest camp friends who has the most stellar taste in music. But she really should start a music blog. Exhibit a=this song which she so kindly shared with me. Love you eseids!

3. Many of you commented on this post that you wanted to know what I looked look when I cook…now do you take back your wish? This is my “uniform” aka C’s track sweatshirt, my McGill sweatpants, my afro tamed in a bun and fuzzy Christmas socks that I wear year round (unpictured). This is how the magic happens.

4. In honour of the release of the new Hunger Games movie I am dedicating a whole point to my girl crush Jennifer Lawrence. If you don’t already have a girl crush on her, this buzzfeed will make you. Such a boss. Besides my obsession with Jennifer Lawrence, I also have an affinity for tween books, movies and popstars. I’m particularly excited for the release of this movie.

5. In addition to my new habit I have also discovered a talent of mine. Sleep “baking” (if microwaving counts as baking). I woke up at 4:00 AM two nights ago with a ravenous appetite and had an intense craving for cake. Apparently in my delirium I came up with a pretty awesome recipe and also managed to not wake up my parents. Win! Sorry for the terrible photo, I haven’t quite mastered sleep photography.

Pumpkin Spice Mug Cake

  • Prep Time: 5 mins
  • Cook Time: 1 min
  • Total Time: 6 mins
  • Yield: 1 1x

  • 1 T brown rice flour
  • 2 T vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1/4 tsp pumpkin spice
  • 1/3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 T pumpkin puree
  • 1 egg white
  • 8 drops of liquid stevia

  1. Spray a mug with nonstick spray or coconut oil
  2. Combine dry ingredients.
  3. Add in wet ingredients.
  4. Microwave on high for 1 minute and 10 seconds.

What’s your current food weakness? Any newfound talents or music finds? Should I continue with Random Ramblings or are you not interested in my mindless thoughts?

Ah HA!! You DID take a photo!! What did I say…mad blogger dedication right there, missy! I’ll get to work this weekend on your construction paper/glitter/unicorn award and it will be in the mail on Monday as long as I don’t mess up and hodge-podge it to my hand! 😉 Love the pic of you cooking! That’s basically how I look too…give a couple more untamable stray locks and stains on my pants because I have no idea what a napkin is! Haha!

You know from my post yesterday that I’m a total goat cheese, brussels sprouts, kabocha donut fiend right now…oh perhaps you missed that last part? Yep, I made KABOCHA DONUTS!! Post just went up today! Woot woot! Keep those random ramblings coming, you rocking lady in red! <- Sorry, I blame the insomnia on that one! 😉

Haha, you look pretty much as spectacular as I do when I cook. Good thing I am not a vlogger 😉 Currently I am rocking my pink tough-cookie pj pants with uber-comfy socks while baking carrot cake – I am probably not the person to ask for fashion advice.

Oh and how excited I am to finally watch Catching fire next week! I’ve been waiting the whole year for the movie to come out. Cannot wait!

I come up with random recipes at random times too lol. I throw a bunch of stuff together and voila – snack cake, breakfast bake, dessert etc. I can’t say I have a food weakness but I do somehow incorporate peanut butter into every meal. Maybe we can call it an addiction.

I went to go see Hunger Games last night, and let me tell you, that girl is a bad-ass. Also– are those almonds really that good? I keep seeing them around here in Columbus, and I’ve been itching to try them, but I don’t want to purchase them only to find out that I’ve made some terrible, terrible mistake, haha.

CHOCOLATE! Holy gerbils, chocolate… I can’t get enough of the stuff lately — it’s getting bad. But bad in the best way possible. And I seriously have the hugest crush on Jennifer Lawrence — she’s best friend material.

I have issues baking when I’m awake, let alone asleep…so the fact that you were able to do that is so impressive to me. Whenever I’m hungry in the middle of the night I literally just stick my face in the fridge and hope for the best. I’m too excited for Catching Fire–it looks AMAZING and all of the guys are so attractive and Jennifer Lawrence is essentially my favorite person ever.

Yes to fuzzy socks. I wear the most heinous striped ones all year round. They work great when I want to wear boots over my pants but the pants aren’t actually made for boots…holds all the extra fabric in place, perfection 🙂 When my feet hurt from the boots, I walk around work wearing my male coworkers slippers and my pants tucked into my fuzzy socks. I obviously have a lot of friends….

I think I may have to break down an try a mug cake one of these days. All the cool kids seem to be making them… But what I really want to know is if you actually have a 1/3tsp. measuring spoon?! I’ve never seen one. Maybe it’s a Canadian specialty item. Ha. Ha.

What a fabulous blog & header makeover, when I opened your blog, I thought I was reading a different blog! Well done, Davida! When I stopped by Trader Joes the other day, there were loads of chocolate & caramel products – but most of them are not vegan. Oh you don’t annoy people at all..clearly these people should be sharing their talents if they have a passion in making or producing something! Haha, I love wearing thick socks, sweatpants and mostly pajamas whilst cooking, why not be comfortable in your own kitchen especially when the weather is cold?! Jennifer Lawerence isn’t a bad actress at all, I can’t wait to watch the 2nd part of Hunger Games, it’s lookin’ good so far!

I really like your random thoughts, as well as your kitchen attire & love Jennifer Lawrence. I really want to see that movie, just trying to talk my husband into it. 😉

You re-did your blog. It’s cute! Lol sleep baking could be dangerous and I definitely would not be good at sleep photography! I’m pretty sure we all look like that when we bake btw! 🙂
