Hi from the skies! <–I wish. Unfortunately after a streak of bad luck my flight to Toronto was cancelled. Initially I’d written a post full of first world problems, but in line with my resolution to remain positive when life goes off course, I’ll keep the complaints to myself.
Despite a few mishaps and a minor meltdown in the Apple Store things ain’t so bad. Phones can be fixed (or replaced if you cry hard enough), sickness will heal and eventually my flight will take off. In the meantime, here are the shenanigans that went down these past few days in Montreal.
Ever wonder what -40 degree celsius AND fahrenheit feels like? Don’t. I’m slowly recovering from the frostbite on my face. The weather and a nasty cold resulted in 24 hours of hibernation. More precisely noodles with sriracha and The Good Wife marathons.
As it turns out the best companion to hibernation is laziness. Once I finally found the motivation to rouse myself from bed and prepare my morning ritual (oatmeal) I had used up my entire stockpile of energy. Washing a bowl just wasn’t an option. Queue stoke of genius-Oats in a martini glass!
Once the temperatures warmed up to a casual -20 C we ventured outside to grab coffee and treats from my favourite coffee shop, which of course was closed. Instead we headed to the grocery store to pick up some real food…you can only live off oats and sriracha for so long. To go with my salad-a-day we made some Stuffed Spinach & Ricotta Chicken and Orange-Almond Rice.
I can’t explain to you how much I needed to move my body after 48 hours of sickness and stagnation. It had been way too long since C and I hit the climbing gym. Usually I top rope but I decided to boulder alongside C. Such a killer workout! On the lookout for a new climbing gym in Toronto if anyone has suggestions.
I guess it’s a sign I wasn’t meant to leave Montreal just yet. A cancelled flight can always be healed by a Bloody Caesar. In fact most things in life can be healed by a Bloody Caesar.
Hoping to be on my way to Toronto as this publishes! Though it’s been a good trip I am ready to get home and start working. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and have an even better Monday.
Do you ever go rock-climbing? Is it as cold near you?
