Weekend Recap 01/03-01/05

January 6, 2014

Hi from the skies! <–I wish. Unfortunately after a streak of bad luck my flight to Toronto was cancelled. Initially I’d written a post full of first world problems, but in line with my resolution to remain positive when life goes off course, I’ll keep the complaints to myself.

Despite a few mishaps and a minor meltdown in the Apple Store things ain’t so bad. Phones can be fixed (or replaced if you cry hard enough), sickness will heal and eventually my flight will take off. In the meantime, here are the shenanigans that went down these past few days in Montreal.

Ever wonder what -40 degree celsius AND fahrenheit feels like? Don’t. I’m slowly recovering from the frostbite on my face. The weather and a nasty cold resulted in 24 hours of hibernation. More precisely noodles with sriracha and The Good Wife marathons.
montrealAs it turns out the best companion to hibernation is laziness. Once I finally found the motivation to rouse myself from bed and prepare my morning ritual (oatmeal) I had used up my entire stockpile of energy. Washing a bowl just wasn’t an option. Queue stoke of genius-Oats in a martini glass!
oatsOnce the temperatures warmed up to a casual -20 C we ventured outside to grab coffee and treats from my favourite coffee shop, which of course was closed. Instead we headed to the grocery store to pick up some real food…you can only live off oats and sriracha for so long. To go with my salad-a-day we made some Stuffed Spinach & Ricotta Chicken and Orange-Almond Rice.
dinnerI can’t explain to you how much I needed to move my body after 48 hours of sickness and stagnation. It had been way too long since C and I hit the climbing gym. Usually I top rope but I decided to boulder alongside C. Such a killer workout! On the lookout for a new climbing gym in Toronto if anyone has suggestions.
climbingI guess it’s a sign I wasn’t meant to leave Montreal just yet. A cancelled flight can always be healed by a Bloody Caesar. In fact most things in life can be healed by a Bloody Caesar.
caesarHoping to be on my way to Toronto as this publishes! Though it’s been a good trip I am ready to get home and start working. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and have an even better Monday.

Do you ever go rock-climbing? Is it as cold near you?

Aww, safe travels Dear, I hope you made it home by now!
I LOVE the oatmeal in the martini glass, SO stylish.
I went rock climbing with my bro a few months ago. He let me start off easy, but then cheated on me by telling me it was an easy route (can’t remember the letters) but then it was an advanced one. I was nearly dying.

Good gosh – -40 degrees is insane! It is 29 F here and supposed to go down to 5 F this evening and I find 29 way too cold, I would be in hibernation ALL winter if it was -40 here! Yikes and OUCH!
Nope, I have not been rock climbing – it sure looks like it was a killer workout!
Safe travels Davida and I am hoping you are on a flight now.

I am still thinking about the oats in fancy glasses since you posted it on instagram lol. I promise to serve mine in my fine crystal stemware instead of just an empty jar. I hate when things get all off kilter, especially in the winter. And yeah, it is crazy freezing here yet warm this morning only to drop down to crazy freezing again tonight. Is it summer yet?

Eek friend, hope you’re feeling better and your travel woes are all sorted out. Your bouldering picture is crazy! I can do the flat wall but as soon as it angles I promptly fall off. It’s definitely such a good workout though, I was sore in all kinds of weird places after we went a few weeks ago! It really got me wanting to hit up a gym locally again though, and your picture has re-motivated me now that I’m home!

I actually used to go rock climbing outside on rocks. Isn’t that funny? My college roommate and high school friends were all huge climbers so they would take me with them. I was pretty bad back then. I would like to go again sometime now that I have upper body strength (kind of) and flexibility.

Olive et Gourmand, breaking both of our hearts!

    What is a bloody Ceasar??

It’s the Canadian version of a bloody Mary! Made with clamato juice instead of tomato juice and it is BOMB. Like actually better than a bloody mary! When you’re in Toronto we’ll go to the BEST place where they serve it with a lobster tail!

I have never tried rock climbing, but I sure would love to try it. What a cool and creative way to get moving.
Sorry to hear about travel plans not working as expected, although good job rolling with the punches. I suspect the Cesears helped. 😉

Way to go with the positivity, lady! And check out muscle woman on the rocks! Love it! I haven’t been climbing in YEARS! Actually, the last time I went, was my first time…I totally sucked at bouldering, but I did go up the wall 2 1/2 times…and had all 275 sore muscles the next day to prove it! Lol
