Weekend Recap-07/12-07/14

July 15, 2013

After several weekends away it was wonderful and entirely relaxing to spend a weekend in Toronto. It is HOT, but nothing a smoothie or two can’t take care of. I managed to pack a lot into 48 hours but the pace of the whole weekend felt fairly slow. I would definitely call it a success.

Started off the weekend with a family BBQ (2/3 of my family at least) cooked by the true chef of my house, Mom! I very rarely eat red meat (I actually didn’t start eating it until 2 years ago) but it was definitely a treat to indulge in some steak and potatoes. Plus it’s always nice to eat a delicious meal that you didn’t have to cook! Thanks Mom 🙂

Saturday morning brunch at Easy Restaurant. I’d heard good things but the meal was so so. The highlight was definitely the gluten-free sourdough bread. I can handle spicy but the Mexican omelette had at least 5 jalapeños in it. My mouth was on fire for the majority of the meal.

After brunch we walked to Trinity Bellwoods Park for some R & R. The sun was shining and there was a nice breeze. By far the nicest day of summer yet! C obviously had to do some tree climbing while I people watched. There are moments when I miss NYC but I really do love Toronto.

Once I got antsy we took a walk down Queen West so I could stop in Tealish. I picked up two different flavours of green tea which I am so excited to try out. I was craving something cold though and was tempted by the Mango Matcha Tea Smoothie. I absolutely need to recreate this at home! Sweet but refreshing. I’m drooling for one now. The rest of the day was spent hanging out with friends, eating leftovers and movie watching.

Sunday I was up early for my long run. I am currently following Hal Higdon’s Half-Marathon Training Plan. Can’t say 100% I will be running one in the fall but am listening to my body and if I am still feeling good in August I’ll sign up. I ran 4 miles and stopped for some bananas on the way in preparation for a seriously yummy breakfast.

I am officially addicted to my Grain-Free Banana Pancakes. You may have seen the recipe on my Instagram on Friday. It’s my third time eating them this week. I’ll post the recipe soon I promise! C and I did some major damage on this stack. I was ravenous after my run.

It’s been a while since I’ve done my usual Sunday Food Prep. I had a few hours to spare on Sunday aft so I cooked up a few things for the week. I barbecued some chicken, asparagus and mushrooms. Made my Harvest Grain Salad. Washed and dried the strawberries, blueberries, and grapes for my yogurt breakfast parfaits (I’ve been really into them lately). Cut some veggies, cooked tempeh and made a huge container of Buddha Sauce for my Buddha Bowls. Snacks this week will be taken from the freezer arsenal.

So that’s that! I am looking forward to spending the night catching up on my terrible but addictive reality TV shows and getting to bed early. Oh and the overnight PB & J oats in an empty PB jar that I have waiting for me in the morning 😉

Hope you all had an equally wonderful weekend! What did you get up to?

Jealous that you got to spend the weekend at home! I had a lovely weekend with a friend from college, but traveling to get there was a nightmare, and I got a cold on top of that!

I love planning out my meals for the week because I ALWAYS eat healthier and save money.

Amen to that! Enjoying my prepped buddha bowl as we “speak”!

Sorry about all of the travelling! Your post on working out in airports was hilarious! I’ve shown it to at least 10 people. Love it!

Coming this week! So freaking delicious gahhhh! Is it sad that I actually crave food prep? It’s been hard these past few weekends I’ve been away.
