Weekend Recap 03/29-03/21

April 15, 2013

Another weekend, another recap! Soooo much eating this weekend. My stomach has not been a happy camper today but the only person I can blame is myself. I really have to get better at not eating foods I know will set me off. One day I will learn…but in the meantime here are some of my weekend highlights:

Friday started off with a pre-Raptors game dinner at e11even. Was not sure what to think about this place when we walked in but ended up having a fantastic meal. Thank you to [email protected] for her inadvertent twitter recommendation of the Ahi Tuna Salad. You were right, it was delicious!

Had a great time at the Raptors game and we won! The energy at basketball games is always amazing and so much fun to spend quality time with my Dad 🙂 Highlight was definitely high-fiving Jonas Valanclunas as he walked out. He didn’t actually play because of an injury but he looked pretty fly in his blue velvet blazer!

Finally made it to Rock Lobster! My friend and I went on a mission to get into this place and were prepared for a serious wait. They told us it  would be an hour wait but 20 mins later we were seated! We occupied our short wait with their signature Caesar that has a lobster tail in it. Unbelievably good! The food was equally as delicious. A few oysters to start, jerk crab and shrimp and lobster poutine. The cheese curds did me in but I had no regrets while eating everything. You MUST check this place out.

While I was out for dinner my Mom hosted a birthday party for a close friend. As per usual I was recruited to cook. I made a bunch of things (some of which will be up on the blog this week) but if you’re looking for an easy appetizer to make for a dinner party, try these! Mini phyllo bites, which you can find in the freezer section, filled with cubed brie, drizzled with a mixture of fig paste and honey and topped with crushed pecans. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 20 mins. So easy, a must make! Except for you glutards…you don’t wanna eat the phyllo dough.

I woke up Sunday morning with an irresistable craving for scones…or maybe just butter? I had an abundance of fresh rosemary leftover from another recipe and couldn’t get the idea of orange rosemary out of my head. Orange rosemary scones were the result! These are mouth-wateringly delicious and gluten-free! Recipe coming this week

With some time to kill on Sunday afternoon I thought I would try to tackle my dry skin. I’ve been experimenting with all natural beauty products and since we all know I am obsessed with coconut oil for just about everything I figured it would likely cure my dry-skin woes. So-far-so-good! My hands have felt great all day and I smell vaguely like lavender shortbread cookie 🙂 I’ll post the ingredients soon.

How was your weekend? Any tips to saying no to foods that you know will hurt your tummy? Besides willpower….

I sound like such a stalker Sarah! But seriously it was gooooood. Possibly coming up with a make-at-home version? I think yes!
