One thing I did not anticipate when I moved out of my parent’s house was having to feed myself. Don’t get me wrong, somewhere in the back of my mind I knew it was true but I guess I managed to suppress those thoughts. Yes, I realize I am 24 years old AND a food blogger. I did successfully manage to survive living on my own for 5 years so those skills are there, but there’s something about moving back into your parents home that causes you to regress.  Greek Quinoa BurgersAs you know I love to bake, but part of the reason why I used to post so many baked goods was because my parents were feeding me meals. I should clarify that by “feeding me” I am referring to my Mom’s awesome cooking and my Dad’s fabulous chauffeur skills to one of our 3 spots: Burger Shack, Tabbouleh or Churassco (miss you!).  But now I’m on my own and not just feeding myself, but that 6’3 dude who supposedly shares my space. It’s forced me to cook more meals and in the process I’ve discovered that I actually kind of love it. It also works in my favour because I cook and C takes care of absolutely everything else around the apartment. Fair deal, right? I think so… Greek Quinoa Burgers 2Lucky for me, C puts up with my insistence that we eat our veggies and fish and doesn’t get mad at me when I tell him a cookie is unhealthy when in reality it’s gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, made of air etc…Moral of the story is, think you hate cooking? Give it another shot! You can’t live off Mommy and Daddy’s cooking forever (says the girl who had her Mom drop fish off at her apartment yesterday…shhhhhh).


Greek Quinoa Burgers

  • Prep Time: 40 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: Yields: 10 burgers


  • 2 cups cooked quinoa (any colour), cooled completely (1 cup uncooked)
  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 medium cucumber, seeded and chopped
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped (not in oil)
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt & pepper to taste


  1. Cook quinoa according to package instructions. Place in refrigerator to cool faster.
  2. Add cucumber to a food processor and process until completely broken up.
  3. Add in red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese and parsley and pulse several times.
  4. Add in chickpeas and process until it all comes together into a sticky mixture.
  5. Add quinoa, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Process until mixture can easily be rolled into balls (about 40 seconds).
  6. Divide and roll into 10 balls.
  7. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add coconut oil or olive oil.
  8. Place several burgers in pan an flatten slightly with palm.
  9. Cook on each side for about 3 minutes or until outside is crispy.
  10. Serve warm on it’s own or on a bun.
  11. Will keep for several days in refrigerator.

    I moved back into my parents house for a few months after I graduated college and usually made my own meals. Now when I go home to visit for the holidays I still make my own meals while I’m there because a lot of the time we have differing opinions on what is healthy!

  5. I love when my parents cook for me! I only see them a few times a year, so I think it’s okay that I fall back into those old habits. These sound good, I think your lucky that C will eat what you cook, I don’t know what I would do if Tyler was a picky eater.

  6. I briefly moved back in my with my parents after college and then again after I moved back from Australia and was starting law school. Both times my mom did the cooking. Now whenever I go visit her I do all the cooking. I decide what we are going to eat, I buy the groceries and make something! She usually takes care of dessert though!

    1. Total opposite of my fam where I do all the baking! I definitely did NOT get my baking skills from my mamaaaa

  7. OMGHEEEE these look amazing! The pictures are gorgeous too. My parents eat like teenagers with takeout and veggies from a can so I’m happy to not be living at home. When I’m there I either have to make every meal to eat healthy food, or scarf down breaded pork chops so I don’t offend them. It’s a delicate situation and one I am happy to be out of. Because I’ve done more cooking for them on my visits home they’ve come to expect that i’ll make all the meals so it’s actually more work for me when I go home to visit. Bizarre right. O family dynamics. They are so amusing.

  9. Don’t get me wrong–I freaking adore cooking. That said, there are days when I would DIE for a home cooked meal made by some one other than yours truly. Washing dishes is the bane of my existence. These burgs look fab and I have all the ingredients hayyyy!!
