I love my coffee as much as I love my tea and vice versa. I usually start my day off with a coffee and then sip on some herbal tea throughout the day and evening but lately I’ve been waking up early (out of necessity…weh!) and have found myself needing an added caffeine boost in the afternoon.

I love the taste of coffee and if it didn’t make me wired and shaky with a cup too many, I would probably replace water with it. But we all know that too much jo is no bueno for many reasons so lately I’ve been having a cup of green tea in the afternoon as a pick-me-up.

A couple of years ago I actually challenged myself to give up coffee and switched exclusively to tea. For 6 months I went coffee-less and started each day with a mug of green tea. It was nice to not feel like I depended on coffee and I was also getting the nutritional benefits of green tea. It was also during this time that I got really into researching tea, its history and what to look for when purchasing.

Sorry but popcorn flavored green tea doesn’t exist in nature…In my research I discovered how not all tea is created equal. More often than not, that tea you’re sipping on was made from bottom of the barrel leaves, laden with artificial flavors, in a bleach-filled tea bag. I know…try not to freak out.

When Buddha Teas reached out and asked if I wanted to try some of their tea, I made sure to do my research first. I was excited to learn that all of their teas are organic, non-GMO and free of any artificial flavors. The box that I selected, Lemongrass & Green Tea is made from just two simple ingredients, organic lemongrass and organic green tea. Plus their bags are bleach-free and packaging made from 100% recyclable material.

I knew I required something more to keep me going. They say that protein is the best thing to eat when you want to sustain yourself through the afternoon, so I set out to find a way to combine my cup of green tea with a protein-filled snack.

And that’s how this Blackberry Green Tea Chia Pudding was born.

I’m always throwing chia seeds onto food for the added protein and omega-3s but I’ve been neglecting chia pudding lately. This was my perfect opportunity to bring back the chia and test if I could pull off tea in chia pudding.

I’m happy to report it was successful! Not only was it awesome (seriously- the combo of green tea and blackberries is unreal!) but it also kept me awake through my afternoon skype meetings with Lee.

I may even go as far as to say that this could replace my typical morning coffee and oatmeal. GASP.

  1. So pretty and delicious sounding! Chia puddings are the best 😀 Thank you for sharing this recipe, we’re sharing the love on social media this week and have pinned it as well. Yum!

  2. Blackberries are my favorite type of berry – looks so good. I never make chia pudding but I have a huge thing of chia seeds sitting in my cabinet untouched! I love the idea of using tea!!

  3. Chai tea or green tea is my go to for an afternoon pick me up. If I have coffee it makes me too wired and hyper ha. I love it though and always steal a gulp or two from Js coffee when we go out to brunch.
This tea sounds pretty amazing, and loving the creative flavours in the chia pudding 🙂

    1. More than one cup of coffee and I am off the wall! But if C has a cup around me you better bet I’ll drink it too 😉

  4. Hi Davida! First of all, I’m a green tea gal through-and-through. I gave up coffee a couple of years ago when I moved to San Francisco, because my coffee maker wasn’t available for a while and I got sick of going out to buy coffee. Now I’m all the way into tea and have started drinking the better stuff at times. However, I’ve NEVER incorporated tea into a food like this. So does the pudding get thick? Seems like it would be liquidy? I totally love this idea!! Thank you!

    1. Hi Ashley! Chia seeds are super absorbent so while it seems like it would be too liquidy, when you let it sit for at least 6 hours the seeds absorb the liquid and it gets super thick. Hope you enjoy 🙂

  5. I have green tea every morning, with fresh ginger and a squeeze of lemon. I only have coffee at my boyfriends because they have a high quality maschine and it tastes just so good!
But your body handles coffee and tea (green, black and white) the same way, both have caffeine (ok, tea has theine) but the body recognises it in the same way. So just swapping coffee for tea doesn’t have a real impact on your body actually 😉 So if someone wants to get a caffeine detox, they have to give up tea as well! (herbal and fruit tea is fine though)

  6. Love love love this! I’m definitely a coffee girl, and in the afternoon go for either half-caf or green tea to prevent getting too wired.

I also love the addition of blackberries in this – in the area where I live/grew up blackberry bushes are essentially weeds that grow EVERYWHERE. It’s pretty awesome because all summer long we can head to our backyards and have the best blackberries fo’ free…and they are as organic and local as it gets 🙂 I need to try this when they start growing this year!

    1. So much jealousy right now! Blackberries are like $10 a pack here haha #canadaprobs Have a great weekend lady!
