These Black Bean Lava Cakes are a healthy dessert that will trick your loved ones into eating their beans! No one will ever know these chocolate lava cakes are made from black beans!

Remember that time I wrote a whole post on how lemon was my favourite cake flavour and chocolate was so cliche for Valentine’s Day? I lied.

As soon as I pulled these babies out of the oven, it was love at first sight. When I dug my fork in and the chocolate came oozing out, I was hooked. And then there’s the fact that the main ingredient is black beans…I have found my soulmate.

Black Bean Lava CakeFood makes me think about things. I’d like to believe I’m not the only person who experiences profound philosophical realizations while in the kitchen. I probably am.

These cakes of goodness got me thinking about love at first sight and the idea of a soulmate. After some deep thinking and 2 lava cakes, I experienced some major epiphanies. I believe you can sense a person’s energy within minutes of first meeting them and that chemistry is a very real thing. I also don’t believe that we all have a single person we are meant to be with. I don’t think everyone can be compatible but I do think we each have at least 5 people in this gigantic world we can make it work with.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going all sister-wife on you (it’s totally cool with me if you’re into that!) I just think finding 1 in 7 billion is kind of a tricky task.

black bean lava cakes 2Despite my beliefs, I do think I’ve found my 1 (or 4) in 7 billion. These Black Bean Lava Cakes have filled my heart with immense joy and I cannot wait to spend my life with them.

Just kidding 😉 You all know who I’m talking about and if you ask nicely I’ll tell you the story of how we met. Let’s just say I got more than a diploma on graduation night!

  2. I am featuring your recipe this week on Allergy Free Wednesday Davida, thanks for sharing it with us… I love bean based treats!

    1. Just a little bit less than 2 oz but I played it by ear so my pieces weren’t perfect. I would say it’s about 4 pieces from a dark chocolate bar if that makes sense? Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!

  3. OMFG!!!!! Ok, sorry for the foul language, but that is some SERIOUSLY intense food porn, lady!! And with black beans? You know this is like the most perfect-est Valentine’s dessert in all of blogland, right? RIGHT?!?!?! You’re killing me…I’m overwhelmed! First the pudding, then the cinnamon rolls, now?? Gahhhh!

Reining it in a bit, I have to say I agree with you 100% on the love thing…I think it’s ridiculous to say in the WIDE world that we live in that there is only ONE person out there who is our “meant to be”. And while I do believe in the “lust” at first sight (and the chemistry from that), I’ve found with age that chemistry isn’t always something that ignites that fire in the beginning. But in my opinion, you HAVE to have a healthy amount of passion no matter what!

  4. hahaha, sometimes I think chocolate is better than a man 😉
These look truly amazing. Cool that they’re grain-free too!

  5. Beans in dessert are the coolest thing everrrr. I cannot wait to try these! They look awesome, oh wow, look at that gooey center, I think I’m in love too.
And how couldn’t I believe in love at first sight after knowing that these babies exist?? ;–)

  6. I want to know the graduation night story! Tell me please. It’s sounds kind of naughty which I like even more. Sorta like these chocolate (beany) lava cakes. I’ve made brownies before with beans, so I know just how wonderful they can be in baked goods. One might even say moist. Gasp. Now who’s naughty?!
