Sweet cherries topped with a toasted oat crumble make this gluten-free cherry crumble the perfect summer dessert! Enjoy this healthy dessert all summer long.

I love when I create recipes that are the perfect mix of healthy and indulgence. This gluten free cherry crumble is that recipe. Traditional cherry crisp recipes are made from cherry pie filling, all-purpose flour, butter (or margarine!) and brown sugar. I am proud to say I successfully upgraded the traditional recipe to a flavorful, gluten-free, vegan option. You can thank me later!

I obviously wanted to keep the overall flavor the same as the traditional version but I wanted to use fresh and whole ingredients when possible. I made three main changes:

  1. In place of cherry pie filling, I used fresh cherries.
  2. In place of all-purpose flour, I used oat flour.
  3. And in place of butter/margarine, I used coconut oil.

The end result is just as delicious (or dare I say better?!) than the traditional. I love how light and refreshing it is while also being extremely satisfying. Pro tip: enjoy a la mode. 😉

How to Make Gluten Free Cherry Crumble

I love making crumbles and crisps because they are super simple to throw together! Start by mixing the cherries, coconut palm sugar and cornstarch in a large bowl and set aside. In a separate bowl, mix together the topping: oat flour, rolled oats, coconut palm sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add in the coconut oil and use your hands to combine everything so the end result is a crumbly consistency. (Official baking term…) Add your cherry mix to a large baking dish and then sprinkle the crumble on top, coating the entire top. Bake at 375º for 45 minutes or until the top is slightly browned and crispy.

  1. Love this. I know the feeling! I had some paleo bloggers over the other night, had too much wine and decided to roast marshmallows #judgementzone. Gotta live sometimes!

    1. BAHAHAHA Lex this was the best thing I could have read. I expect you to get drunk and roast marshmellows with meeee in a few weeks!

  2. I tell people I’m a blogger, but err more on lifestyle, especially when I’m in Portland and it seemed necessary to start drinking pinot gris out of a can. At lunch. Clearly I don’t want to go back to Pittsburgh tonight. womp womp.

  3. Hehehe this post made me laugh… I totally have days/long weekends where I’m like AHH GET IT TOGETHER! STOP EATING DESSERT & DRINKING SO MUCH WINE! but what I’ve come to realize is that healthy living is just that, a lifestyle. So what if we have a few days here or there when we’re eating more cupcakes than kale? What matters is the overall picture of things, and I’m pretty damn healthy most of the time 🙂 This looks so yummy and I am all about all things cherry!! MUST MAKE ASAP.

  4. What’s healthy is moderation! You’d be LESS healthy if you didn’t allow yourself to have some fun and relax. I see no shame! And this cherry crumble looks ridiculous. Want.

    1. Luckily I’d feel more than okay getting kicked out the club! What’s life if you can’t eat cupcakes for dinner and crumble for breakfast?! 😉

  5. Can I make this for dinner tonight? And then eat the leftover’s for tomorrow’s breakfast after my barre class? #Acceptable

  6. I only tell real life friends if we become friends on social media … mostly because I don’t want there to be any surprises if they discover my blog. Hahaha

  7. You could always try and hide the kale in the cupcakes… I’ve got some extra on hand I’d be willing to lend you 😉

In honesty though I think this post gets it exactly right, there is no shame in LIVING life and that includes enjoying all of the good foods! Though I’m a little upset that I don’t have some of this crumble in my kitchen right now, this post really should come with free samples.

  8. What makes a “healthy living” blogger anyways? To throw in a salad among all the burgers and cookies once in a whirl, then throw in a Garmin pic? I hope so, because that’s what I do.

I rarely tell my real-life friends about my blog. I’m embarrassed about it for some reason. Probably because the real life me and the blog me are such polar opposites.

  9. I don’t always tell people I’m a blogger but many people who know me already know:)
I make apple crisp (similar, right?) and call it breakfast because it has fruit and oatmeal (never mind the butter and brown sugar!!).

  10. I wish I could sleep in until 11. I’m lucky if I can sleep in until 7…lol. This sounds delicious! I don’t think I would have patience to pit cherries though.
