This burrata salad is the perfect simple and flavorful salad to add to your next summer meal. With fresh juicy tomatoes and an easy drizzle of balsamic dressing you will have a delicious salad recipe on the table in minutes!

The BEST Burrata Salad

Move over mozzarella, burrata is having its moment! And when it comes to summer salads, you cannot go wrong with this burrata salad recipe. It is basically the taste of summer in a salad.

I know I talk about my garden A LOT but it really is what drives all my recipes in the summer and with an abundance of heirloom tomatoes growing, I’m always looking for fresh ideas to pair with them.

Like a caprese salad, the ingredients in this burrata salad are simple and really allow the fresh tomatoes, herbs and cheese to shine.

What is Burrata?

Burrata is essentially mozzarella with a creamy center. The outer shell has the texture of mozzarella (it’s the same cow’s milk cheese) but when you cut through the center a thick cream will spill out. It tastes delicious in this burrata salad or on a sandwich, crostini, pizza or on a charcuterie board as an appetizer.

Ingredients in Tomato Burrata Salad

  • Burrata Cheese – you can find this at most grocery stores in the cheese aisle. Typically it is in a container with liquid.
  • Heirloom Tomatoes – Any variety of heirlooms works here. You could also sub in some cherry tomatoes as well, just be sure to slice in half.
  • Fresh Basil – or other preferred fresh herbs.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Ideally use extra virgin olive oil to bring out the natural flavors in the oil.
  • Balsamic Vinegar – a good quality balsamic vinegar makes all the difference here.
  • Sea Salt and Black Pepper – just a sprinkle to enhance flavor

How to Store

You can store your burrata salad in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. However, for best results I recommend consuming immediately.

Easy Swaps + Substitutions

Add some greens – Looking to add more greens? You can place this salad on a bed of leafy greens like spinach or arugula.

Swap the herbs – Not a fan of basil? You can use any other fresh herbs in place. Parsley, mint or cilantro would both taste delicious.

Sub tomatoes for other fruit – yes tomatoes are a fruit! This burrata salad would be delicious with peaches (or other stone fruit) in place of tomatoes for a peach burrata salad.

Use mozzarella – can’t find burrata? You can easily sub in fresh mozzarella instead.

Make a crostini – toast some bread and place some of this tomato burrata salad recipe on top. It will taste kind of like bruschetta but with creamy burrata cheese.
