Random Ramblings #14

June 13, 2014

This post should actually be called “how I procrastinate while writing an ebook”. Yes, I procrastinate by writing blog posts…hence how I’ve managed to keep up posting 6 days a week while creating and shooting 40 breakfast recipes. It’s official, I’m crazy. That is until this week when 6 posts just weren’t going to happen. Instead you got 4. I think that brings me down to an average posting scheduling. I’ve never been good at being average.

So instead of attempting to finish the book before the weekend (which for the record would have been bat-shit crazy), I’ve chosen to ramble instead. So, when i’m not busy watching InDesign tutorials, here’s what I’ve been up to…

I couldn’t find rhubarb ANYWHERE so I headed to the Trinity Bellwoods farmer’s market hoping to find some. Despite getting there just after opening, most of it was sold out and the only one left was half my size. Yes, I walked home along Queen street carrying a small rhubarb tree. C then thought it would be hilarious to pretend it was an ancient greek style leaf fan and treated me to a nice cool down. I wanna know where my grapes were man servant…

rhubarbSpeaking of trees, my green thumb is way out of whack. Actually, I’m pretty sure this means I don’t have a green thumb since I managed to kill our cactus (it legit receded into itself) but kept our orchid alive?! For the record, we like to come up with ironic names for our inanimate objects, so allow me to introduce you to Ivy the Orchid.

Besides talking incessantly about Petunia, my favourite topic of conversation is my future breakfast nook. I have NO eye for design but I know exactly what I want it to look like. I think C was feeling bad for me so after whipping up another breakfast recipe for the ecookbook, he made a fake breakfast nook for us by our windows. It was missing the ocean and windows that can open outwards but at least we saw Petunia on a walk!

IMG_5715This song on repeat. It’s a classic from Pharrell and JayZ but it’s been remixed by Disclosure so you better bet it’s a whole other level of good. My summer procrastination playlist is getting pretty epic. Shall share soon…

C has been talking about seeing The Lion King on stage as frequently as I talk about our future breakfast nook. So I surprised him with tickets for his birthday! We might have had a few too many glasses of prosecco before so I was slightly intoxicated and definitely considered part of the “elderly folk” there, but I might even say it was more epic than when I saw it for the first time when I was 10.

Lion KingAlright time for me to focus. By focus I mean create a new summer playlist for you guys…

Do you have a green thumb? What was the last live show you saw?

Absolutely no green thumb. No interest in plants or planting or gardening. Although I like to receive flowers. Roses. Peonies. Hydrangeas….Last show I saw was Rock Of Ages. So good.

Love that mix! I can’t even tell you the last live show I went to. My parents are actually huge into theater (they built and run their own community theater in our little town) so the one thing I do know is that it was one of their shows. I wish I could see more but I’m never home when they are performing!

Yay procrastinating from writing with other writing! It’s like how I procrastinated from studying by reading books. Couldn’t I just read my text books? Meh. And your date pic is cute!

Hey, I nominated you for a Liebster Award! You probably don’t need more help in procrastinating these days, but if you need a break and want to play along, https://emilyrockstheroad.wordpress.com/2014/06/13/liebster-award/

I have absolutely NO GREEN thumb…I’m pretty sure that when I walk past plants they die! lol
Maybe when I’m older I’ll learn about gardening and plants, but for now I’m blissfully unaware. I do appreciate other people who do have a green thumb though!!

The last live show I saw was actually Skrillex in Detroit, which was amazing, and my friends and I are going to Chicago this weekend for Spring Awakening. We are also going to Toronto in a couple of weeks so maybe we will see another show there as well!

    Have an AWESOME weekend!

    Rhubarb is so bloody good.
I am no gardener but my Mum is literally Mrs Green Thumb – she has every herb going in her garden and loads of vegetables – it is great. I want to grow my own herbs and vegetables though so I should get learning pronto.
I LOVED the Lion King – My Dad took me in New York when we were there for my 21st Birthday – it was so amazing. I have not seen a musical in ages actually but I do want to see Les Mis!

My best friend wanted to see The Lion King, but tickets are like $200 for a matinee on Broadway, so we had to pass on that. I should have bought her tickets for her birthday, except I don’t have $400… ANYWAY, I’m glad you two enjoyed getting to see it! You deserve a breakfast nook since you cook it so much. It seems only fitting. I guess that means I deserve a french fry nook. I need to get on that…

That rhubarb tree is the best. Was there Bacardi Feeling playing when you got the cool down?

We should introduce Ivy to Douglas, my unkillable peace lily. I think I’ve killed him at least 10 times, but somehow he always manages to come back to life. Go him! So yeah… no green thumb for this girl. My mom recently bought me an aloe plant which I’m pretty sure I’ll somehow manage to snuff out.

I saw The Lion King on Broadway a bunch of years ago and loved it!

Girllll I can’t hang with 6 posts a week. 3-4 has been my weekly norm lately!

I also have an orchid that is looking nice and alive, woohoo! Got to love orchids, they bloom beautifully and require like 3 ice cubes every 2 weeks or something like that. I’m planning on picking up herbs & plants to try my hand at gardening once again this weekend – wish me luck!

Ohh I love this post. All your posts are fun, but this switch up is great once in a while. I think your breakfast nook is adorable, and I would eat piles of waffles and cookies anytime with you sitting there. Or just in general…that too. I love that you went to see Lion King slightly intoxicated..you wild woman you. One day I shall see this myself, and I will expect being an old maid in a sea of young annoying preteens. I don’t like kids…of any age. We would get along so well, I gladly hike around as far and long as I must to get my hands on whatever I set out for..be it rhubarb or a fluffy cupcake. Usually it’s a cupcake though lets be real.

I would love to see The Lion King! I loved that movie as a kid. I think I seriously surprised JZ last weekend when I sang all of “Just can’t wait to be King” followed by the entire lyrics to “Fat Lip” within the span of 5 minutes haha.

The Lion King was epic. I actually saw it in Toronto!

I have a whole green hand, maybe even two, although it wasn’t always that way. Fifteen years ago, I couldn’t keep a plant alive, now I have a houseful which is about 20 plus indoor plants and lord knows how many outdoor flowers, herbs and as of this year VEGGIES. I did kill the broccoli, although my cauliflower is still going strong. In fact, his leaves are about as big as your rhubarb there. 🙂 I must talk to my man servant about this. 😉
