Just throw all the ingredients into a jar and let it sit overnight for a healthy and fun breakfast in the AM!Picking a favorite nut butter is like being forced to choose a favorite child. In which case, I’d choose almond butter.

…my poor future children. OY.

With everyone getting their panties in a bunch over the glory that is peanut butter, I’m over there in the corner hoarding my insanely expensive jar of almond butter. What can I say? I have expensive taste.

But for real, almond butter is the true joy of my life and is perhaps what I miss most when I’m travelling.

Oh wait, I totally travel with my almond butter.

A simple and easy breakfast recipe, this Chocolate Almond Butter Overnight Oats will become a new morning favorite. Just throw all the ingredients into a jar and let it sit overnight for a healthy and fun breakfast in the AM!When it comes to breakfast, I can be so so boring. I go in food ruts where I have the same thing for breakfast every single day for months and then one day wake up and decide that I’m sick of it. I vacillate between smoothie bowls and oats and occasionally pancakes, but no matter what phase I’m in, there will always be almond butter.

And as I’ve discovered, almond butter is to chocolate as peanut butter is to jelly. If that doesn’t make almond butter better than peanut butter, I don’t know what will. So basically I will be feeding future children almond butter and chocolate sandwiches…which hopefully will make up for the fact that I totally just picked favorites.

Just throw all the ingredients into a jar and let it sit overnight for a healthy and fun breakfast in the AM!This Chocolate Almond Butter Overnight Oats recipe is actually an old favorite. I probably ate this every single day for a year a few years back. Likely BBE (before the blogging era), which would explain why it never made an appearance on the blog. But lately I’ve been getting sentimental and including some throwback recipes to old faves.

In the process I’ve also been reunited with my love for this recipe. So onto an old/new breakfast phase! Not surprisingly, it includes almond butter!

I LOVE almond butter! I once tried to make my own at home, but it took forever and it was quite dry (maybe because I used roasted almonds for the process…). Since I bought a huge jar of organic, natural almond butter I put it in everything: my morning oats, protein bars, and even when I’m in need of dessert I eat a spoonful (ow two 😉 ). I love peanut butter too, but that is saltier and different than almond butter. What I haven’t tried yet is sunflowerseed butter. Since I keep hearing so many good things about it I’ll try it sooner or later (when my jar of almond butter gets empty 😉

    Have a lovely Sunday Davida!

oooooh sunbutter is really good too! Almond butter will always win for me though. It definitely takes the longest to process if you are making it yourself, but it is so so worth it.

Peanut butter is one of my least favourite nut butters, I’m all about that cashew butter! <3 Love this simple recipe and it's perfect way to get myself out of my own breakfast rut!!
Also that has to be the prettiest and fanciest almond butter design ever. Pretty much art,

Always peanut butter. I really tried hard to like almond butter and I’ll eat it these days but peanut butter has all my love. That being said, I’d pair it with chocolate over jam/jelly any day.
p.s. I have a totally full jar of AB in the fridge that I bought this week during an ‘I need to like almond butter phase’. Thanks for giving me something to finally do with it lol

This looks like a healthy dessert for breakfast. I love it! I totally go through breakfast phases of oatmeal bowls, protein shakes and straight up eggs.

I am seriously SO guilty of eating almond butter and dark chocolate every single day. Once I discovered the birth of almond butter I immediately became HOOKED. I still love peanut butter but there’s something so special about almond butter! It’s absolutely amazing. This oatmeal is a great way to put these two lovebirds together, haha! And by the way, I have NO shame in eating almond butter and dark chocolate every day 😉

The real question is, how do you get your almond butter to look like that?!? When I try to make mine look pretty it just globs up haha.

I love nut butter and chocolate together so so so much! I think if I had to choose one it would be peanut butter … my guess is this love dates back to days of PB&J packed in school lunches.

Is it weird I love you even more for confessing to almond butter > peanut butter *gasp* But if I had to choose, cashew butter has my heart. Ugh I’m craving all of the good food right now. My parents and in-laws don’t eat like I do, or keep the same kind of food in the house. Let’s just say I CANNOT WAIT until we are able to get into our new place.

This looks so appetizing, and your photos are beautiful! It made me want to eat oatmeal again! I used to follow the eat-clean diet for a while, and it recommended just plain oats boiled in water, so after that I didn’t eat oats for a while :/
    Thank you 🙂

Well that doesn’t sound very appetizing 😉 Oats definitely need some fun added to them! Hope you enjoy!

    Hi Davida,
Quick question – have you made this w/out banana? I’m trying to keep to low-fructose, and eliminating bananas these days. Do you think it would still have enough sweetness / right texture without?
    Thanks!

You could certainly try a low-fructose sweetener but in terms of texture, I’d replace with something like pumpkin that will add a similar consistency, without the sugar! Hope this helps 🙂 -Davida
