I start every single day with a smoothie. It’s one of the easiest ways for me to get in my greens (and sneak them into my toddler) so I don’t have to worry too much about my veggie consumption the rest of the day.

That being said, making the same smoothie recipe over and over can get quite boring. That’s why I’m always sharing new smoothie recipes. As a food blogger for over a decade I’m constantly innovating not just for you (my readers!) but for me too. It keeps things exciting not just professionally but also personally.

This kiwi smoothie has officially been added to the roster…and recipe index!

Why You’ll Love This Kiwi Smoothie

  • Vegan + Gluten-Free – This smoothie recipe is entirely vegan and gluten-free and can be included in almost every diet!
  • Great source of fiber + vitamin C – Kiwis contain high amounts of dietary fiber and are a fantastic source of vitamin C. So move over oranges, there’s a new fruit in town!
  • Tastes delicious – In spite of the many healthy ingredients in this smoothie, it actually tastes so delicious! I’m making ingredient swaps if you’re curious but as is you will love this recipe.
pineapple, kiwi, mint, spinach and other tropical ingredients in a blender.

Ingredients Needed

  • Kiwis – you can use fresh or frozen kiwi. Just be sure to peel it! You can technically eat kiwi skin but I just don’t like the texture.
  • Pineapple or Mango – Either works great in this tropical smoothie. You can use frozen pineapple or frozen mango too.
  • Coconut Milk – Carton or canned coconut milk both work great. For a creamier smoothie opt for canned but coconut milk from the carton is delicious too.
  • Spinach – for added nutrition! I promise you won’t notice the taste.
  • Chia Seeds – these are a great source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids but also help to thicken your smoothie.
  • Ice – if using frozen kiwi and frozen pineapple or mango, you can leave this out but I like to add a few ice cubes to help thicken my smoothie.
  • Mint – This is entirely optional! Adding a few sprigs of mint really makes this kiwi smoothie taste like a tropical snack but you definitely don’t have to include it.

How to Make a Kiwi Smoothie

Making this smoothie couldn’t be simpler. Just add all your ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth or desired texture is achieved.

Easy Swaps + Substitutions

Swap the fruit – If you prefer to use a different type of fruit in place of pineapple or mango you can easily substitute that in. A strawberry kiwi smoothie would be delicious!

Swap the milk – I like using coconut milk because it tastes a bit more tropical but almond milk or oat milk are both great substitutes.

Add protein powder – looking for a boost of protein? Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or even 1/2 a cup of vanilla or plain greek yogurt. Note that using greek yogurt will mean this is no longer a vegan smoothie but if you’re okay with that, go for it!

Replace the seeds – chia seeds can easily be replaced with ground flax or even hemp seeds.

Meal Prep + Storage

I generally don’t recommend prepping smoothies in advance. That being said you can easily prep your fruit – make sure you peel your kiwi and chop up your mango or pineapple. You can also optionally freeze everything in advance as well.

As far as storing leftovers, this smoothie will keep in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours but generally tastes best immediately after blending.
