4 Ingredients is all you need for this No-Churn Healthy Chocolate Avocado Ice Cream Recipe. The perfect summer dessert recipe made for whole foods and ready in 5 minutes or less.
One thing I don’t think anyone thinks about when it comes to blogging is how much perseverance you need to have! In fact, so much of this job requires more perseverance than you could imagine. It meant showing up here everyday when the only person reading was my Mom (who stopped in once a week…). It meant believing that I could turn my hobby into a business when the majority of people had only a vague sense of what blogging professionally really required. And it still means being persistent when it comes to creating recipes!
Part of being a recipe developer is expecting things to fail and having the courage to try again when they do. Take this chocolate avocado ice cream for example… I may or may not have cried over my third (failed) attempt at this ice cream. I wouldn’t have any recipes on the blog if I let every single mistake get me down! Thank goodness I’ve developed some resilience and will keep trying until each recipe is perfected!
But have no fear! It has been perfected! Let’s dive into it…
Avocado Ice Cream Ingredients
- banana
- avocado
- raw cacao or cocoa powder
- pure maple syrup
- optional: mint extract, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, peanut butter etc…
Freezing Avocado
Wait a minute…YOU CAN FREEZE AVOCADO?! Yup! A little fact I learned when I travelled to the avocado capital of the world. The best way to freeze them is to remove the skin and pit and place the insides in tact in a ziploc bag. Remove and place straight in the food processor if making this avocado ice cream or remove a few hours before use to defrost and then cut or mash as preferred.
A great way to use up your avocado before they go bad!
Avocado Ice Cream Variations
I’m sharing a base recipe that is absolutely delicious but if you’re anything like me, you can’t go wrong with some added flavors! Here are some ideas that would be delicious:
- Mint extract
- Coconut flakes
- Chocolate chips
- Peanut butter
- Chopped nuts
- Frozen or dried fruit
The options are endless! Experiment with different ingredients to come up with your own personal winning combination.

Thanks for this recipe! I really liked the idea of starting with frozen avocado and banana, but found that my Cuisinart was having a hard time processing the frozen chunks of avocado down to a smooth consistency. Fortunately, I had not started out with a very large avocado, and was thinking my batch could use some more, so my solution was to add in another small, fresh avocado, as well as 1 Tablespoon of melted coconut oil. This helped the mixture come together, and the resulting frozen treat was creamy and delicious. 🙂
I’ve tried this several times and it always comes out bitter. What could make that happen?
Perhaps too much cacao? And maybe make sure your bananas are very ripe?
So delicious! Totally hit the spot for a not-so-healthy eater… Making it again, this time, I’m adding chopped almonds. O yeah! Thanks for persevering!
Just stumbled upon this.. omg it is so good! thanks for taking the time to build out this recipe in such great detail… it was idiot-proof!!
