Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon

May 24, 2020

This simple Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon is made with just 6-ingredients but packs a ton of flavor. The perfect recipe for summer barbecues or a quick and easy weeknight meal on the grill.

I admit without any kind of resistance to being a mustard addict. I also feel pretty passionately about mustard being the ultimate condiment, but I suspect that’s what you’d expect from a mustard addict…no shame in my game.

If you were to open my fridge right now, the first thing that would jump out at you is the exceptional amount of mustard. Dijon, stoneground, sweet and spicy,  honey mustard… I truly believe you can’t have enough mustard.

Now that the weather is warming up, I’m obviously coming up with all of the grilled recipes that also use mustard. I came up with this simple grilled salmon recipe and it’s a new staple in our household!

Why salmon?

Salmon is basically a superfood. It is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids which are essential aka your body can’t create them so we have to get them through our diet. It’s also a great source of protein and a variety of vitamins and minerals. It has been shown to help a variety of chronic diseases. Basically, it’s a delicious fish that you should try to incorporate into your diet regularly! (Source)

Here’s What You Need:

  • Fresh salmon – if you can find and afford it, wild salmon is the best option. Having said that, all salmon is beneficial to include in your diet to eat what you can!
  • Honey mustard – you can use store-bought or homemade!
  • Olive oil – a key part of the marinade.
  • Lemon juice – freshly squeezed lemon juice is best.
  • Garlic – the perfect savory accompaniment to the other flavors.
  • Salt + Pepper – to bring all of the flavors together.

That’s it! Doesn’t get much easier than that!

My Tips for The Best Grilled Salmon

  1. Allow time to marinate. If you’re in a pinch, you can get by with one hour but I personally like to marinate the salmon overnight so all of the flavor is fully absorbed!
  2. Use oil. You can either oil your grill or I like to place a piece of tinfoil on the grill and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Make sure your grill is preheated. This goes for all meats – did you know that if your grill or pan isn’t hot enough, your meat will stick to the pan? Make sure you preheat before adding your protein!
  4. To flip or not to flip? There are differing opinions when it comes to flipping your salmon. My opinion? You do you!
  5. Don’t overcook. Check your salmon on the early end of cooking and put back on the grill if needed. You’re looking for flaky flesh!

Grilled Honey Mustard Salmon

This simple Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon is made with just 6-ingredients but packs a ton of flavor. The perfect recipe for summer barbecues or a quick and easy weeknight meal on the grill.

  • Author: Davida Lederle
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 lbs salmon fillets, skin on if desired
  • 2 tbsp honey mustard
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl combine mustard, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and salt and pepper.
  2. Place salmon filets in a flat-bowl and top with mixture.
  3. Allow to marinate for at least 1 hour, though longer is better* in the fridge.
  4. Heat up grill to medium-high heat and grease. I like to place a piece of tinfoil on the grill and spray with olive oil spray.
  5. Place salmon on grill and cook for 4-6 minutes per side depending on how thick your salmon is. Do not overcook! You’re better off undercooking and putting it back on the grill than overcooking.
  6. Serve immediately.

*I like to marinate mine overnight for the best flavour.

I think you’ve seen my mustard addiction first hand… they actually sell the fancy Toronto market brand at the grocery store by my dad’s house so I stock up every time I’m there! xoxo

Your addiction to mustard is like my addiction to zucchini and salmon. I mean, come on, how can you beat that?! I love that this recipes plays with a little sweet and spicy!! I cannot wait to try this marinade since I don’t have honey mustard very often!

Omg I’m a TOTAL mustard addict. Dijon, honey, sriracha mustard…doesn’t matter, I eat it! This looks soooo good, and I love the addition of zoodles on the side! Salmon is definitely my favorite thing to grill for dinner. 🙂
