Why Drink Turmeric Lattes?
Turmeric lattes are a fantastic way to kickstart your day if you’re looking for an alternative to your morning coffee latte. Turmeric is caffeine-free but it is a great beverage of choice for anyone looking to reduce inflammation in their body. Some conditions that might explore the benefits of turmeric include arthritis, chronic pain or healing from surgery and/or an injury.
Turmeric lattes are traditional in ayurvedic medicine which originates from India. In Hindi, golden milk is called “haldi ka doodh” (“haldi” means turmeric and “doodh” means milk) so it is sometimes referred to as turmeric milk. It traditionally contains a variety or spices including ground turmeric, black pepper, ground cinnamon and ground ginger.
Can you drink a turmeric latte everyday? Absolutely! If you enjoy the taste of a turmeric latte you can 100% drink them everyday.
Ingredients in a Turmeric Latte
- Non-Dairy Milk – I like almond milk but coconut milk, cashew milk or oat milk are all great dairy-free options.
- Maple syrup – or other sweetener of choice (honey is a good option)
- Ground turmeric– a little goes a long way! Just a 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder is all that’s necessary.
- Black pepper – just a pinch of black pepper. This helps to improve the bioavailability of the curcumin in turmeric. *this is important!
- Ground cinnamon – just a sprinkle of cinnamon. You can eyeball this but it’s slightly less than an 1/8 teaspoon.
- Ground ginger -same as the cinnamon you’ll want just a sprinkle or pinch.
How to Make a Golden Milk Latte
STEP 1: COOK ON STOVETOP
In a small saucepan add your milk, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon and ground ginger and bring to a boil. Whisking everything together, lower heat to a simmer at cook for 3 minutes. Stir maple syrup (or other sweetener) into small pot.
STEP 2: ENJOY!
Pour mixture into a mug and enjoy!
How to Froth Milk
If you like a frothier turmeric latte you have a few options:
Hand frother or espresso machine – Use a hand frother or the milk frother of an espresso machine once all ingredients have been combined.
Blender – Once cooked on stovetop, blend turmeric latte in your blender. Note that turmeric stains so wash you blender right away.
