It seems like when the season turns, I get the itch to update my wardrobe. I usually just have to dig into my closet and pull out the seasonally appropriate clothing but I also like to add a few items to keep things fresh. As you know, I’ve been focusing on sustainable clothing and recently found these amazing Black-owned companies.
Before we jump into this I wanted to remind you to review what makes a clothing company sustainable and get familiar with some of the terms HERE.
5 Black Owned Sustainable Clothing Companies
GALERIE.LA – Yes, I’d like one of everything, please! This shop is insanely gorgeous! I’m not kidding when I say I’m building a wish list of items from here! Mom? C? Are you taking notes? The founder, Dechel Mckillian, is a celebrity stylist that saw a gap in the fashion industry and sustainable fashion. So she took it upon herself to curate a collection of brands with a shared philosophy.
Two Days Off – I’ve got my eyes on multiple items from this shop in LA! Each piece is made to order or made in limited quantities. I love this statement: “We believe that high-quality, well-designed clothes will be loved. And loved clothes last. Each garment is drafted considering silhouette, comfort and longevity.” Love the simple, timeless designs!
lemlem – Okay this company is amazing! The founder, Liya Kebede is from Ethiopia, which is the heart of the company. African artisans incorporate their local techniques and designs into apparel in partnership with lemlem. They have so many gorgeous designs – truly something for everyone!
NXC Vintage – I am all about vintage items but have approximately zero patience in thrifting or searching for these pieces. Forever grateful to those that have the gift of searching and curating the most fabulous vintage pieces like NXC Vintage! Her pieces are so colorful and fun and will definitely be my first stop for some fun formal wear!
Le Coeur Noir Vintage – I want to keep this little shop all to myself but I guess I’ll share! Ha! She launches vintage denim and shorts periodically on Instagram so follow her for future drops! Cannot wait to snag some vintage cutoffs to wear for the rest of my life…
