Why We Love this Homemade Lip Scrub

Making your own DIY Lip Scrub could not be easier! This recipe comes together in under 5 minutes and makes a wonderful holiday or host gift!

It’s also so important to exfoliate your lips – a step many of us forget to do! Like the rest of our body, our lips accumulate dead skin cells and dry skin which can lead to chapped lips and also black heads around our lips.

This natural lip scrub is safe for use with ingredients like sugar, coconut oil and essential oils that will leave your lips feeling smooth and luscious. Trust me, if you haven’t tried a lip scrub you won’t be going back once you do!

Ingredients for DIY Lip scrub in a green bowl. Sugar and coconut oil with lavender essential oil and vitamin E oil

DIY Lip Scrub Ingredients

Sugar – I prefer to use regular white sugar (sugar cane) in this recipe as it’s a little less harsh but brown sugar or even coconut sugar works great as well.

Coconut oil – All you need is a tablespoon coconut oil. This helps to add moisture to your lip scrub but also creates the texture to apply it easily to your lips. You could try a different oil like olive oil or jojoba oil but I haven’t tested it myself.

Essential Oil – I like to use 1-2 drops of lavender oil purely for scent purposes but you’re welcome to use any preferred essential oil (peppermint oil and different citrus oils would be great)

Vitamin E – This is entirely optional but vitamin e helps to extend the shelf life of this dry lip sugar scrub and is also a great source of hydration and healing for your lips.

How to Use DIY Lip Scrub

Using this DIY lip scrub is very very easy. I keep mine by my bathroom sink and do it at night a few times a week as I’m completing my skincare routine.

To use: take a small amount of lip scrub using a clean finger and massage into lips in a circular motion to remove any dead skin cells. Rinse and pat dry with warm water. Feel free to apply some lip balm after use.

How to Keep + Store Lip Scrub

This DIY sugar lip scrub will keep for 3-6 months if stored in a cool, dry place.

Reminder to always use clean and dry hands when scooping lip scrub from container to prevent any kind of contamination!
