The ultimate healthy soups recipe round-up! 35 Healthy and Delicious Winter Soup Recipes to Keep you warm all season long! Grab your bowls because it’s time to chow.
This round-up was a long time coming. By now you should know that I love soup. Honestly we should change this blog to The Soup Maven. At this point I have over 40 healthy soups on the blog!
But why is soup so good in the winter? Of course soup is great to help warm you up in the winter, but winter soups are also a great source of vegetables, protein and grains – all in one! More often then not you can throw everything into a pot, add some spices and simmer it and you’ve got a delicious big batch meal full of flavor. I mean how could you not love a good chicken noodle soup?!
What Soups Are The Healthiest?
There actually isn’t a world’s #1 healthiest soup – mainly because everyone has a different definition of health! Some might say that bone broth or chicken stock as the base would be the healthiest but someone who is vegan might prefer plant-based ingredients.
Generally, if there’s lots of vegetables, it’s probably good for you! Look for soups that are packed full of veggies like kale, carrots, peppers, broccoli, even garlic and onion! Personally, I think this healthy vegetable soup is a really great option!
You’ll also likely want a soup that has some form of protein. Chicken soup or lentil soup for a vegan option. Sausage, white beans, black beans and even split pea soup can all be great sources of protein too!
What’s The Difference Between Healthy Soups and Stews?
How about the difference between soups and stews? This really comes down to consistency. Soups tend to have more liquid whereas stews are cooked down to a thicker consistency. I consider a stew a soup but a soup is not a stew. Many stews tend to be tomato based and have heartier veggies like potatoes, corn or squash. But not always!
From vegan to gluten-free to slow cooker and Instant Pot (and just about everything else in between) here are the best healthy soups to keep you warm all winter long.

December 1, 2014 at 1:18 amOhhhhh it’s definitely one of my favorite things to get at cafes like Corner Bakery and Panera!!! 😀 Now I really want chicken noodle…like, bad…haha. I would like to see clam chowder with a healthy twist! I don’t know how one could make it taste legit with less fat and all that jazz but I’m sure it’s quite possible 🙂

November 21, 2014 at 9:53 amI am really not all that creative with soup so a recipe roundup is very much appreciated! Soup is one of those things I keep wanting to get into but never seem to, kind of like yoga 🙂 Curried tomato soup sounds really interesting.
